Our restaurant is now known for its changing menus that capture the Japanese season in Munich. At Christmas and New Year's Eve, we allow ourselves a little more freedom to cook in a less strictly Japanese style and, as always, serve you something very special. For many years, New Year's Eve celebrations have been the culinary highlight. of the year at the sansaro restaurant.
You can enjoy the New Year's Eve menu „Mutsuki Shoshō“ on December 30 and December 31, 2024.
Now that the evening is over, here are some pictures of the individual dishes and feedback from the guests.
New Year's Eve 2024 at Restaurant sansaro
In Japan, there is a saying that „laughter brings good fortune,“ and it is believed that laughter attracts happiness and prosperity.
The first laugh of the year, the „Hatsuwarai“ At New Year, it carries the wish to make the coming year bright and cheerful.
Our menu was created with the desire to experience harmonious moments with loved ones such as family and friends, and to give our guests a happy start to the new year and put a smile on their faces.
That's why we've named our New Year's Eve menu for 2024 „Mutsuki Shoshō,“ which literally means „The first smile of the new year.“

First Laughter of the New Year
Right at the beginning—before that—we will first serve you a Glass of champagne or a glass of sparkling tea, regardless of the accompanying beverage.
We highly recommend pairing your meal with a drink, but you are also welcome to choose from our entire menu. A Kanochi from Kuheiji (powerfully mineral) or a Muroka Nama Genshu (expressive, with a concentrated rice flavor) would also be excellent choices!
First things first: Umami Dashi
To whet your appetite, the kitchen sends out a small broth made from kombu, shiitake mushrooms, and nori seaweed.
1st course: Zensai Sanshu Three types of appetizers
Radish and carrot salad, egg tofu with carrots and spinach, shrimp with egg yolk vinaigrette
Optional beverage pairing for the first course:
Shichiken Sparkling Sake / Junmai / 11% ABV / 0.1 l
2nd course: Tai Sashimi 鯛の塩昆布和え
Japanese sea bream dressed with shio-kombu, shiso, walnut oil, sesame, lime, and yuzu peel, with a hint of ichimi-togarashi, a mild Japanese spice made from Japanese Hontaka chili peppers.
The pleasant marinade gives this sashimi a wonderfully wintery, full-bodied flavor. That alone is a treat that we would otherwise only get from seasonal Kaiseki-Know Japanese cuisine. Soy sauce Please do not do that.
Optional beverage pairing for the second course:
Koshi no Kanbai Kinmuku / Junmai Daiginjō / polished to 35% / 16% alcohol by volume / 4 cl
3rd course: Soy milk tempura
Soy milk tempura with dengaku miso. Something exquisite for connoisseurs.
Optional beverage pairing for the third course:
Rihaku Dreamy Clouds / Tokubetsu Junmai / polished to 58 % / 15 % Vol. / 4 cl
4th course: Tarabagani Uni-Shōyu (King Crab with Sea Urchin Soy Sauce)
King crab with sea urchin soy sauce and enoki mushrooms. The sea urchin sauce is homemade, of course, from sea urchin, sake, soy sauce, and a dash of cream. It is topped with nori flakes, giving the king crab a wonderful aroma of the sea.
King crab is a very exclusive product, which is otherwise regularly supplied by the same supplier to multi-award-winning restaurants.
Optional beverage pairing for the fourth course:
Katsuyama Lei / Junmai Ginjō / polished to 55 % / 12 % vol. / 4 cl
5th course: Kaisendon seafood rice bowl
Rice bowl with salmon, bluefin tuna, sea bass, shrimp, river eel, scallops, salmon roe, egg custard, and shiso
Optional beverage pairing for the fifth course:
Pigno / Cantina Corte Mainente / Soave / Italy / 0.1 l
If desired, you can add three nigiri sushi to the Kaisendon: Maguro Toro Aburi with Yuzukocho, Hamachi, and Tai.
6th course: Sukiyaki
Stew with Japanese A5 Wagyu beef from Hokkaido, tofu, leeks, carrots, and shiitake mushrooms, soba noodles, cooked at the table.
Optional beverage pairing for the sixth course:
Morgon / Mee Godard / Beaujolais / F / 0.1 l
7th course: Dessert
Yuzu Tiramisu (like everything else we serve, it is of course homemade, painstakingly crafted by hand with mascarpone, yuzu juice, yuzu zest, grated white chocolate on top... each glass is unique and requires a lot of manual work)
Optional beverage pairing for the seventh course:
Kyo no Nigori Yuzu / Liqueur / 7% ABV / 4 cl
Feedback on the New Year's Eve menu 2024 at sansaro
After an evening that we had been eagerly awaiting with great anticipation (and even had to deal with dramatic last-minute water and heating problems in between...), we are infinitely grateful for the enthusiastic and universally appreciative feedback from our guests.
Many of those we spoke to praised the king crab with sea urchin sauce in particular. We were especially grateful for the visit of a Japanese businessman who visits us regularly from Japan, this time with his son. We also welcomed long-standing regular customers, former regular customers, and spontaneous new customers.
We are also grateful that our (completely new) kitchen team handled the evening superbly and that guests were able to enjoy their meal in peace, but without boredom.

Gluten & allergies in the 2024 New Year's Eve menu at sansaro
Please note that we cannot take gluten intolerances and allergies into consideration with such an elaborate menu!
The use of soy sauce has given the Japanese cuisine has many points of contact with gluten.
A gluten-free Japanese meal is, so to speak, an unusual custom-made product. We try to serve our customers as best we can by sourcing organic flour from ancient grain varieties and using high-quality products. However, we cannot make any changes due to individual intolerances. Experience has shown that even the very small amounts of gluten in the menus we serve are not a problem for gluten-sensitive guests.
