Sake Tasting Flight from June 2022

Perhaps you think that sake must be drunk hot? And that it is therefore not suitable for drinking in the warm season? If so, you are wrong. There is nothing better than drinking a glass of cool sake on a warm day! In fact, a premium sake such as Ginjō, Daiginjō, Junmai Ginjō [...]

Japancraft 21

At SUSHIYA in Munich, we are fascinated by Japanese cuisine and culture. Our mission is to translate the Japanese craftsmanship of our chefs and the many stories that Japanese cuisine offers in a culinary way for our guests.

But of course, the depth of Japanese craftsmanship is not limited to the kitchen - it can be found in all areas of Japanese life and creation.

But the preservation of craftsmanship and knowledge of the right techniques is no longer automatic: more and more knowledge is being lost. And it often takes people from the outside to make a difference. Steve Beimel, originally from America and now living in Kyōto, has dedicated himself to preserving Japanese crafts and founded an organization that deserves support.

Sashimi - Japanese-style raw fish

Sushi and sashimi are always mentioned in the same breath - of course, both come from Japan, are known for raw fish and are often served and eaten together. For the Japanese, things are a little different: the word „sushi“ is derived from the meaning of „soured rice“. And sashimi has nothing to do with that. [...]

Fair Bento May 2022

In Japan, there are many different types of bentō for different occasions and purposes. In mid-May 2022, we were commissioned to prepare a variety of Japanese bentō for visitors to the HighEnd trade fair in Munich over two days. It was a wonderful opportunity to showcase our range for a Japanese high-end manufacturer. Unlike a formal bentō such as the Shōkadō bentō or […]

Shōchū - all about the Japanese distilled liquor.

Shōchū, sometimes also referred to as „Japanese vodka“ or „Japanese schnapps“, is becoming increasingly popular in Japan. Young Japanese people in particular love this high-proof drink, which is ideal for mixed drinks due to its subtle taste. But Shōchū is also very popular served neat, on ice or with hot water. Here you can get an overview of everything [...]

Sake Breweries & Sake Varieties

Sake is a subject that inspires and fascinates us. It is often difficult for people in the West to properly fathom the diversity of Japanese sake, as it is a complex and typically Japanese artisanal product. And due to its gustatory sophistication and hundreds of flavors, the many different sake varieties and sake producers offer a [...]
